Four character profiles from "Superbad" and their age stereotypes

Superbad Movie PosterSuperbad is a 2007 American teen comedy film directed by Greg Mottola and starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. The plot revolves around two co-dependent high school seniors who are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry. A lot of the characters adhere to the stereotypes of their age groups, particularly the young characters.

Seth (Jonah Hill) is a typical 17-year-old boy. He usually acts tough and in charge when he is around his friends, Evan and Fogell, but when around other seemingly tougher people, such as Mark and bully Jesse, he freezes up and gets scared. He loves Jules (Emma Stone) and thinks that boys must lose their viginity before graduating high school, which is his main intention with Jules. As a kid, Seth had a problem where he would have the urge to draw penises every time he put a pen to paper. He has distain for Becca (Martha MacIsaac), whom his best friend Evan loves, because she was the first person to discover his problem.

Where Seth is one kind of stereotypical teenager, the assertive, outgoing kind, his best friend Evan (Michael Cera) is quite the opposite. He is weedy, introverted, shy, has trouble talking to girls, and is frightened of the world. He is always there for his best friend Seth through good and bad times, despite Seth accusing Evan of "bailing" on him. Evan is intelligent and a good student, as he has been accepted into Dartmouth College, he is loveable, pretty responsible, and somewhat of a geek. He plays videogames, as most teenagers do, and gets drunk with his friends Seth and Fogell, which once resulted in him throwing up on Seth in front of a strip club, despite them all being underage. He is a virgin, but likes a girl named Becca. By the end of the film Evan has come to the realisation that it is better to be upfront and honest with a girl to get her attention.

Officer Slater (Bill Hader) and Officer Michaels (Seth Rogen) are two young police officers, Michaels only six months into his job, who abuse their power as law officials. They fire their guns for fun, turn on their sirens to run red lights, drink and drive while on patrol, destroy their squad car and have the underage minor they have spent the night drinking and smoking with sign a witness statement that says he saw their car get stolen so they get off scot free. This is wacky, immature behaviour you would expect from twentysomething males given loaded guns and a car.
